Contour specializes in the manufacture and development of climbing skins for ski touring from its headquarters in Innsbruck, Austria.
In 1971, Contour introduced the first adhesive climbing skins to the Austrian market, and by 1978 they began producing them in their own family business. “Made in Austria” is the company’s main motto. Manufacturing in Tyrol not only guarantees the high quality of their products but also allows them to respond quickly to changes and market conditions.
Contour is the official supplier to the International Ski Mountaineering Federation.
The main feature is the use of Hybrid technology, the latest advancement in adhesives for climbing skins. Hybrid is the first dual-layer adhesive technology.
The upper layer firmly attaches the skin to the ski even at low temperatures, yet removes easily without leaving any residue on the ski base. No special maintenance or re-gluing is needed for Contour climbing skins.
Adhesion is restored simply by cleaning the adhesive with a standard household detergent. In case of stubborn dirt or wax residue, the Hybrid climbing skin cleaning spray can be used.
The base fiber used in all Contour climbing skins is mohair, sourced from Angora goats. Mohair is one of the finest natural fibers available and offers excellent properties for climbing skins. With a diameter of only 0.03 mm and a hollow core, mohair is extremely fine yet highly robust and durable. It remains flexible and effective even in the lowest temperatures.
The Contour Guide, Hybrid Pure, and Race product ranges are made 100% from mohair to deliver maximum glide performance.
On the other hand, the Hybrid Mix, Easy, and Basic lines are made with 65% mohair and 35% synthetic blend, offering not only good glide but also very high abrasion resistance.
